If you keep reading, listening, and watching about the loss in stock markets, your brain won’t allow you to invest in the stock market. Why? Because you have only read and heard negative about it. 1. Power of your subconscious mind

Author: Joseph Murphy

Category: Mental power/Spiritual Healing

Rating on GoodReads: 4.1/5

No of pages: 297

Book Summary/Overview:

This book has been on the bestseller list since 1963. The author says that your subconscious mind is always awake and reacting to what you feed him consciously. You are the result of your mental image. Whatever you feed your mind, that is reflected in the outer you.

When you were a kid, you might have consciously learned how to brush your teeth, but now this activity is rooted in your subconscious mind such that you can also brush correctly while watching TV.

The book states mental practices that you can adopt to unlock your subconscious powers. In this 20-chapter book, he states how to use the power – to attract wealth, for a happy relationship, for a healthy body and to be fearless.

Best line from the book: There are tons of them, but one which you need to read is from page 262.

“The only obstacle to your success and achievement is your own thought or mental image”

Why to buy this book:

A book that will change your life – This is what is written on the back cover of the book and indeed it is true.

This was the second book that I ever read in a self-help genre. The author presents his ideas in clear and simple English with live examples. I found answers to a few questions by reading this book. The tone of the book is positive.

Why NOT to buy this book:

There is nothing perfect in this world, even the moon has marks. This book is purely based on believing in yourself.

If you believe that you can control your mind by repeating positive words and visualizing good about yourself, this book is for you. I found this book’s content similar to The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.

If you are not a regular reader and looking for a good read, then this book is surely a great book to start with. This book will solve your maximum life problems and will open your mind to think in a different way. Honestly, it is one of my favorite self help books under Rs 100

Other books from the author:

How to attract money, Believe in yourself, The miracles of your mind.

2. How to enjoy your life and your job

Author:  Dale Carnegie

Category: Mindset

Rating on GoodReads: 4/5

No of pages: 224

Book Summary/Overview:

This book reveals the secret of enjoying your life and job. We spend the maximum time of our lives at a job that we don’t like.

I am not talking specifically about 9-5. If you are a chef, then cooking is your job. Even if you love your job, there might be stressful days when you felt that nothing goes right.

It will take You 5 hours to perform a task that you love and 10 hours that you hate. You can save the extra 5 hours and spend it with your family and friends. This why loving your job is important.

This book gives you solutions on how to enjoy your life and be happy at your workplace. The author explains the seven fundamental techniques to handle people which I am not listing here as that’s the main content you got to read in the book.

Best line from the book:

“The deepest craving in human nature is the craving to be appreciated”

Why to buy this book:

First of all, the author (who has mastered the art of dealing with people) is so popular and almost all his books were best-selling since the year it was launched.

Secondly, who doesn’t want to know the secret for a happy life? This book will tell you how you can enjoy your life by practically implementing 7 easy techniques in life.

Also, the content of the book is easy to read and understand. The day to day situations presented in the book is relatable and engaging. The content of the book is illustrative as the author gave his life examples which make the book more interesting.

Why NOT to buy this book:

This book has major chapters focusing on how to enjoy your life. And like many other people, I was reading this book to know the secret behind how to enjoy your job.

But sadly, this book doesn’t tell you in-depth how you can love your job. It just says that smile at others, avoid tension, make people feel important, etc. Which I think is not possible to implement if you hate your job.

The book surely tells you how you can increase your productivity at the workplace and impress the people working with you, but it won’t tell you how to love what you are doing.

Anyways, I think that’s completely in your hand. No one else can tell you what to love and what not to. It’s you who have to find it.

Apart from the cons, this book has helped me to ignore negativity from my life. It is worth spending your time and money to read this book.

This book might not tell the secret to love your job, but I can tell you the one – if you don’t love your job, then simply change it (laughs). Everyone has negativity in life, you should learn how to deal with it.

3. Think and Grow Rich

Author: Napoleon Hill

Category: Financial Development

Rating on GoodReads: 4.2/5

No of pages: 331

Book Summary/Overview:

Although the book was written in 1937, it is still a gem if you want to know what your thinking and mindset can help you grow rich. We all dream to be rich, but very few have a burning desire to accomplish it. The author explains how you can turn your wish into a burning desire through organized planning and determination for achieving success.

The biggest thing which is stopping you from being rich is your fear; fear that you will lose money, fear that you will have to work hard, fear of instability. The book will help you overcome your fear and adopt the mindset of the riches.

Best line from the book:

“Success comes to those who become success conscious”

Why to buy this book:

Napoleon Hill interviewed more than 20 richest persons of 1937 (including Henry Ford and Alexander Graham Bell) to know what makes them different from others. He combined all the advice from the rich and wrote this book.

So, you get to read advice from more than 20 riches in one book. I thought the language will be tough to be understood as it was written long back, but it is clear and understandable. The words are capitalized where the author intends you to start up and go something.

Why NOT to buy this book:

If you are reading this book with a mindset of becoming quick rich, then you shouldn’t even think of buying this book. This book will only tell you what mindset you have to adapt to become rich.

The book has so much valuable content and timeless information that can help you grow rich. The author explains the 13 practical steps that you can take towards the riches.

The tone of the book is so inspiring and motivating that you will feel like working on it. This book is a must-read if you want to think and grow rich.

4. How to stop worrying and start living

Author:  Dale Carnegie

Rating on GoodReads: 4.1/5

No of pages: 281

Book Summary/Overview:

Who doesn’t want to live a stress- free life? In his 30-chapter book (divided into 6 parts), Dale beautifully explains how you can actually stop being worried about silly things and concentrate on the positive parts of life.

The author presents his honest opinions that he can only show you how other people have eliminated their worries, whether to eliminate it or not totally depends on you. This book claims to be your one-stop shop to living a happier, healthier and worry-free life.

Best line from the book: I loved this whole paragraph and I’m adding it here.

“One of the worst features about worrying is that it destroys our ability to concentrate. When we worry, our mind jumps here and there and we lose all power of decision. However, when we force ourselves to face the worse and accept it mentally, we then eliminate all these vague imaginations and put ourselves in a position in which we are able to concentrate on our problem.”

Why to buy this book:

The font of the book title on the cover page is amazing. The quotes used in this book connects with the content. Every title of the chapter is eye-catching, such as chapter 5 – ‘A magic formula to eliminate worry from your life.’

The author has covered almost every aspect of worry (in relationships, in health, in the workplace) and has provided accurate solutions for it. The language and print of the book are clear and readable. This is one of the best self-help books under Rs 100.

Why NOT to buy this book:

I did not find anything missing in this book. But yes, the book is lengthy to be read. It took me a month to complete it.

Honestly, I bought this book long back to read it at the time when I’ll be worried about life. But your mind loses the power of decision when you are worried and likewise, I forgot to read this book.

Now that you know what mistake I did, I would suggest you to read this book as early as possible to know that you have been worrying for no reason at all.

Other books from the author:

The art of public speaking, The leader in you, Your personal guide to big success.

5. As a man thinketh

As a man thinketh book by James allen

Author: James Allen

Category: Mental health

Rating on GoodReads: 4.3/5

No of pages: (Just) 96 Pages

Book Summary/Overview:

Originally published in 1903, this book has been popular since then. The book states that a man becomes whatever he thinks about himself.

The cover says – A person is limited by his thought that he chooses. If you think about messing up at a public speaking event, you probably will. The author explains the reasons why you feel so low in life and how you can change it.

James focuses on one line which means you are what you think about yourself; if you sow good in your mind you will reap good and vice versa.

Best line from the book: There might be many, but I understood only this (laughs).

“As he thinks, so he is; as he continues to think, so he remains”

Why to buy this book:

This book is so thin that you can literally finish this book in a day. Also, I loved the cover of the book and the print of the book is easy to read. The color of the cover is appealing to the eye.

This book helped me to think about myself in the right way. The book made me realize that I have been thinking wrong about myself and these are the results of what I am. This author beautifully explains how you can think in the right way to generate great results from it.

Why NOT to buy this book:

I found the language of the book difficult to understand as it has a bit of Shakespeare’s touch in the language.

You can know this from the line – “A man does not come to the almshouse or the jail by the tyranny of fate or circumstance but by the pathway of groveling thoughts and base desires.”

I got distracted from the book quite a few times because of the language. If your vocabulary is good, you can opt to read this book.

Even though the language is somewhat difficult to understand, the content of the book overtakes this issue. Truly, this book is an eye-opener and worth reading. If you are a habitual reader, you should definitely read this book.
